A lot of travelers choose to stay at a hostel because of the communal feel it provides and the cost of staying per night is far more cheaper than at most of the hotels. Even though majority of the guests are the solo or the young travelers, you can still see older travelers or even couple travelers still choose the hostels over expensive hotels. If you are planning to stay in a hostel abroad during your trip, we do have 8 tips to share with you.
Do A Thorough Research – Since one hostels vary from one to another, always make a thorough research regarding your hostel. Some hostels infested bed-bugs, some are grimy and there are others that have the standard similarly to a boutique hotel. It is always a smart decision to read some reviews in order to get the insights on the general safety of the hostel, the level of cleanliness, how is the customer service and what sort of age demographic staying there.(image by Grumbler)
Make Good Use of The Lockers – Always store your most valuable items in the provided lockers. Due to the communal feel of the hostels, do not splay your belongings out on your bunk. You will never know when there are thieves among the guests. You can also bring your own padlock just in case you would like to add more safety.
Do Not Advertise Your Items – Refrain from displaying your valuable items to the guests. Do not wear a nice DSLR camera around your neck for everyone to see it. Some people are far more interested in finding a way on how to steal it from you than praise you for having a good camera. Put it in the backpack that you always carry around or in its own satchel.
Carry Less Cash – Do not carry a wallet with a big amount of cash and all of your credit cards while traveling. There are always someone waiting to pickpocket you if you are not aware enough of your surrounding. By spreading your money and credit cards out between different places, you will be able to save yourself from getting all money and credit cards lost in one go.
Pack A Towel – Unlike hotels, majority of the hostels do not provide towels for the guests. Therefore, you should always pack a towel for yourself during your trip abroad. However, there some hostels that will provide it as a rental service. But if you do not want to spend money on this, pack your own towel then.
Ear Plugs For Good Rest – Since majority of the guests are young travelers who love to party, hostels can be one of the most annoying places to stay at especially if you desire a good night rest. Our advice is to pack a decent pair of ear plugs in order to avoid listening to the loud noises made by the young and wild guests.(image by Paul Olkowski)
Staying in a hostel will give you the chance to save more money on your budget and of course, to get to know more new people.
